Laboratory Animals Support Unit

Summary

This support unit manages the animal facility and, through technical support using reproductive engineering technologies, carries out the generation, preservation, and management of biological resources.
At IMS, we strive to elucidate life phenomena and conduct research using laboratory animals such as mice to uncover the mechanisms underlying human diseases and to establish novel therapeutic strategies based on these findings. The animal facility is capable of handling for up to 60,000 mice and maintains Specific Pathogen-Free (SPF) environment. In addition, we maintain vinyl isolator systems that enable the maintenance of germ-free mice for microbiota and mucosal immunology research and severely immunodeficient mice for studies such as humanized mice. We also maintain and manage animal rooms for infectious disease research.
